Theory Test
In July 1996, the DSA introduced the Theory Test for car drivers and motorcyclists. Areas covered by the theory test include:
- Effects of alcohol, drugs and fatigue on driver behaviour.
- Traffic signs and regulations.
- Safety and environmental aspects of vehicles.
- Driver attitude.
Your driving
theory test will take place at your nearest DSA Theory Test Centre.
The test centre address for Newcastle upon Tyne is:
Theory Test Centre
2nd Floor Melbourne House
Melbourne Street
Newcastle, NE1 2JQ
You will need
to answer 35 multiple-choice questions and you will also be tested
on your hazard perception skills. You will be allocated a computer,
which will display your theory test questions and you will have
40 minutes to answer the questions using the touch screen. The pass
mark is 30 and you need to pass both sections to pass your theory
test. You cannot apply for your practical driving test until you
have passed your theory test.
